Symbol for Points (Marks)

Contains a drawing that can be used as a mark for point layers. These symbols can contain just about any item that can be drawn including lines, ovals, rectangles, and text. Click on the mark's name in the project tree and then select a tool from the tool menu to start creating a new mark.

The four-point-star at the center of a new mark is the "Hot Spot" for where the mark will be placed. For instance if you create an arrow as a symbol, you might put the hot spot at the tip of the arrow.

Extent Tab

This is the standard extent tab that you've probably seen in other settings dialogs. It contains the extent of the symbol. Changing these values will change the overall size of the symbol.

Drawing Tab

Style: This is the stle that will be used to draw the extent box and the background for the mark. Most marks will turn off the extent and background fill color.

Draw: Extent In Edit View: While editing a mark, it is handy to see it's extent box. However, you typically don't wnat to see this when the mark is used with a point layer. This checkbox allows you to see the extent when editing but hide it when it is used with a point layer.

Settings Tab

Hot Spot X: X location of the hot spot within the mark's extent.

Hot Spot Y: Y location of the hot spot within the mark's extent.
